Meeting Design Formats & Techniques
"Meeting professionals and purveyors of food design approach an event from entirely different perspectives. As food is one of the most costly line items in your budget, and demands economies be explored to keep to the bottom line without diminishing quality, this session blends the needs of a global meeting professional with the professional creativity and expertise of a world class catering company based in New Orleans. A program's content may be outstanding; the location superb; but if the food is bad - that's all your attendees will remember. As an extra bonus a professional 'tasting' will be offered to the audience as part of the experience!"

Generational & Cultural Differences
"More than 80,000,000 members of Generation Y - born 1977 to 1995 - are entering the workforce. They adhere to a completely different set of workplace beliefs and priorities than that of the three generations currently employed. Generation Y's attitude toward work can make them a challenge to attract, retain, motivate, and develop - even in the current economic climate.

In Gen Y @ Work, bestselling author and member of Generation Y Jason Ryan Dorsey, The Gen Y Guy, cuts through the stereotypes to teach participants exactly what Generation Y covets at work and why. He then reveals a step-by-step process and specific actions that employers can immediately adopt to maximize Gen Y's employment value and save money."

This interactive session will explore the findings of the Future of Meetings project. In 2008, MPI formed a task force to further propel the Future of Meetings Project. The task force was charged with examining the intersection of the learning and meeting professional worlds, analyzing industry information gaps and research needs, and developing a road map to provide our industries with the information and tools needed to cohesively achieve success as we evolve toward the inevitable future of meetings.

During this session, the task force will reveal the research findings, gaps and unknowns as we enter a new convergence between planning and learning.

In 2005, MPI's Global Corporate Circle of Excellence created a white paper entitled "Strategic Meetings Management" (SMM) which identified eight basic steps to develop a strategic meeting management program. Receiving high praise from the industry, these steps have been shared via Platinum programs at chapters, and in an extended two-day track at MPI conferences. Currently, a more intensive workshop is being developed by MPI in response to requests from corporate planners for specific tools that will serve as the framework from which an SMM program can be built. This session will provide an overview of the SMM White Paper and is your opportunity to help create that workshop, ensuring that you get the tools and structure you need to develop and/or grow a strategic meeting management program in your organization. While this session has been created for corporate planners, it is also very relevant to anyone who works with or supports planners.

New meeting markets have emerged, or are emerging. in the Middle East. Consider Dubai, U.A. E, South Asia (India), and China to name a few. All of these markets are poles apart from the cultural and social points of view to which many of us are accustomed. Meeting planners and attendees face new challenges that require an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of socio-cultural practices. This presentation is therefore designed to provide do's and don'ts related to all aspects of meetings in these parts of the world. Case studies, previous experiences, slides and handouts will be used to supplement points discussed in this presentation.

In 2010, Gen Y will represent the entire 18-34 demographic in the U.S. Meeting planners who do not adapt to engage Gen Y will find them to be a vocal group with short attention spans and even louder cell phone rings (especially during keynotes filled with PowerPoint). However, meeting planners that take the necessary steps%u2014most of which are free or inexpensive%u2014to embrace Gen Y will find this generation to be event-driven, highly loyal, and eager to participate. In this interactive session, Jason Ryan Dorsey, The Gen Y Guytm, will share what Gen Y wants from a great meeting and why. "Meetings and events possess a powerful opportunity for attendees to create experiences, establish connections and share knowledge. However if not designed appropriately, with all communities considered, attendees can feel isolated or separated from the intended experience.

A small consideration missed in the design, implementation or promotion of the meeting, can derail a meeting's purpose and disengage a sector of your attendance. With so many diverse communities to consider - culture, sexual orientation, gender, generation, religion, disabilities - meeting designers can quickly become overwhelmed.

During this session, industry leaders and experts in meeting design will share their experiences and case studies, providing you with practical tips and solutions for designing your meetings with ALL of your attendees in mind. You will learn how to truly activate the energy of many cultures, peer groups, lifestyles, religions and skill sets that are ingredients for innovation and opportunity in a global organization or your next meeting."

"Every meeting and event is an opportunity to tell a story and communicate a message. Once the understanding is clear through objectives and goals, the task of defining a theme, a tagline, a guide, is made. We begin with a blank palette and how and when we choose to use colors and start to paint the picture, we build the experience and create a live communication tool. What's in a theme is the power to influence everyone involved and to bring measureable value to the experience. This is an interactive and strategic session involving painting and thinking on purpose."
